My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at 55 and died at 62. At her bedside I vowed I would find a cure for this dreaded “living death” before I took my last breath. Fast forward 21 years and I truly believe. I have discovered even better….PREVENTION. But let me explain further:
Researchers are now saying Type 3 diabetes is a potential cause for Alzheimer’s because of insulin resistance in the brain. It makes perfect sense. Not only were my mom’s hormones out of balance (hysterectomy at 47, consequent weight gain – result of years of insulin resistance as she had a sweet tooth like no other + she fasted for years – a very unhealthy way to lose weight and exacerbated the insulin resistance even further). No matter what she tried she could not lose weight – it was more noticeable in her belly, arms, and bottom – most of where we see the results of years of insulin resistance. Does this describe you? Please read on….

Insulin resistance occurs when the body’s cells become less responsive to the effects of our normal insulin production, leading to higher levels of insulin in the blood. This can eventually lead to the development of type 2 (and now Type 3) diabetes. Researchers suggest that Alzheimer’s may be triggered by insulin resistance in your brain. Type 3 diabetes is a term used by some researchers to describe the theory that insulin resistance and insulin-like growth factor dysfunction in the brain may cause Alzheimer’s disease. Diabetes may cause chemical imbalances in your brain, contributing to Alzheimer’s. Also, high blood sugar levels lead to inflammation, which may damage brain cells. For these reasons, diabetes is considered a risk factor for vascular dementia

Imbalance in hormones also play a role in this “mass destruction” called insulin resistance leading to Alzheimer’s. The hormones produced by the body play various roles in regulating different bodily functions. For example, insulin helps regulate blood sugar levels by allowing cells to take in glucose from the bloodstream. Cortisol, produced by the adrenal glands, helps regulate metabolism, immune response, and stress levels. Thyroid hormones, produced by the thyroid gland, regulate metabolism and growth. Adrenaline, also known as epinephrine, produced by the adrenal glands, helps prepare the body for a “fight or flight” response in stressful situations. Any imbalance of these hormones can cause one to feel not just “off balance” but feel really badly – no energy, depression, mood swings and just overall desperation in your body and emotions.

So what is my prevention?
